Detection is key to incident handling

In order to respond rapidly to network security breaches, companies need to be adept at recognizing likely signs of an intrusion, SANS has claimed.

The organization reports that common indicators are reports from customers saying that they have been received spam in inboxes they used to sign up to company newsletters.

Such an occurrence could be the result of a hacker stealing customer details from internal servers in order to launch spam and phishing scam campaigns. Meanwhile, complaints from customers or employees stating that login details are not working correctly could also suggest a network security breach.
