Home router risk low, say experts

Home broadband users are vulnerable to a dangerous flaw in the internet's domain name system, but experts doubt they will be targeted.

The flaw, if not patched, means that hackers can redirect an Internet user who has requested a domain name, for example a website, to wherever they want.

Internet NZ executive director Keith Davidson says hundreds of thousands of broadband customers with routers with domain name system software could be at risk. They can download security patches for protection, but may also be protected by their internet service providers if they have secured their servers.
